DBT Skills
Theo has a strong background in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and is happy to offer DBT-informed consultation services as part of his integrative and acceptance-based approach to treatment. DBT skills can seamlessly complement traditional therapeutic approaches and help individuals navigate emotional intensity, interpersonal conflict, distress, and uncertainty with greater awareness and intention. DBT is traditionally organized into four core modules:
Mindfulness – Mindfulness skills help you stay present and break free from automatic, reactive patterns. These skills lay the foundation for making intentional choices that align with your values and long-term goals.
Distress Tolerance – These skills enhance your ability to manage painful emotions and navigate crisis situations without becoming overwhelmed by strong emotional urges.
Emotion Regulation – Learn to understand and respond to your emotions without judgment. These skills support both immediate and long-term strategies to reduce the intensity of unwanted emotional experiences.
Interpersonal Effectiveness – Build healthier relationships through assertive communication, boundary-setting, and perspective-taking. These skills also foster balance in the give-and-take of meaningful connections.
